Family Of “America’s Got Talent” Cheerleader Emily Gold Speaks Out Following Her Death

Steven and Brandy Gold issued a statement following their daughter Emily Gold’s tragic death on Friday, September 13.

Emily Gold was a member of the Los Osos High School dance team that competed on Season 19 of America’s Got Talent. The teen and her team advanced as far as the quarterfinals before being eliminated.

Gold, who was a team captain, tragically died after jumping from an overpass, according to authorities. Her death was ruled a suicide.

“When the officers arrived, they located a female, 17-years-old, who was struck by at least one other vehicle in the carpool lane on eastbound 210,” a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. “The female did succumb to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Gold, 17, was remembered by her friends, teammates, school, and coach as “a leader, role model, friend, and sister to her teammates.”

Her family spoke out in a statement posted to Instagram and confirmed Emily’s death while thanking everyone for the “outpouring of love and support.”

“With sadness beyond measure we must tell you all that we lost our beautiful Emily on September 13th. Our hearts have a hole the size of the universe right now. The outpouring of love and support we are receiving shows us how many lives that angel touched and lifted up, and it is what will help us through the most difficult time of our lives. Thank you all so much for your love and support.”

The post signed by Brandy, Steve, and Emily’s brother, Alex. Alex also shared a comment below that read, “I love you sis i’m going to do it all for you ill always look for you in the sky.”

Emily Gold’s cheer and dance coach, Rachel Muego, also remembered her late protege in a touching post shared to social media.

The written tribute from Muego accompanied a series of photos and videos of Emily with her coach and dance team. The coach wrote, “All I keep hearing in my head is your voice, seeing your beautiful smile, hearing your laugh and all of the positive words you’d bring to us daily. You lit up all of our lives and I know you’re going to keep doing just that, shining for us and being that peace and hope that we all need. Em I miss you so much and from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU.”

About The Los Osos High School Dance Team

The Los Osos High School dance team consists of 52 students and is best known for its incredible choreography set to some of the biggest hits from popular artists.

The team went viral earlier for a dance honoring Usher ahead of his Super Bowl halftime show.

The Los Osos High School dance team auditioned for America’s Got Talent in hopes of “gaining recognition” and “fulfill dreams of pursuing dance beyond high school.” The group’s audition aired in May and received mixed reviews from the judges. Howie Mandell and Heidi Klum felt that the choreography wasn’t impressive enough to ultimately win the season. After a “no” verdict from Howie, the remaining three judges voted to send the team through to the next round.

The dance team returned to AGT in August for the quarterfinals, where they impressed the live audience but once again failed to impress Howie Mandel. They did not receive enough of America’s votes to advance and were eliminated.
