“The Singing Janitor” Richard Goodall Marries Angie Vanoven Ahead Of “AGT” Finale

Congratulations are in order for America’s favorite “Singing Janitor,” Richard Goodall, who married his fiancee, Angie, on Thursday (September 18)!

Richard Goodall, a middle school janitor who found fame after appearing on Season 19 of America’s Got Talent, said “I do” to his fiancee, Angie Vanoven, following his America’s Got Talent finale performance earlier this week.

Goodall shared the news on social media saying, “As of 3pm pacific time Angie and I are now Richard and Angela VanGoodall!”

In a second post, Richard shared that they got married surrounded by their “AGT family” and enjoyed dinner on the beach in Malibu.

Richard and Angie’s nuptials came just days before a new America’s Got Talent champ will be crowned. Goodall is a fan favorite to win the season thanks to his beautiful covers of ’80s hits from artists such as Survivor and Journey.

Richard Goodall and Angie Vanoven’s Love Story

Richard Goodall told IndyStar ahead of his AGT premiere that he started singing karaoke in the ’90s and eventually took part in competitions. Goodall’s karaoke competitions came to a screeching halt due to the pandemic, but after his wife’s death in 2021, Richard returned to singing as a way to help him heal.

“When you’re married for so long and they pass away and you’ve got that void there, your biggest concern is figuring out who you are without them,” he said. “And music was the bridge again.”

A few months after his wife’s death, Richard went to a karaoke bar, a place he would frequent in the months that followed. It just so happened that Angie followed the bar’s Facebook page and saw videos of Richard often.

In late 2022, Richard and Angie connected, and, as they say, the rest is history.

Angie was unable to attend Richard’s AGT audition in California, but has been at each performance since and has become a vital part of his story.

Richard Goodall’s “America’s Got Talent” Journey

Goodall caught the eye of AGT producers after Journey frontman Steve Perry reshared a video of the janitor singing their hit song at a school talent show. Perry’s caption read, “Needs to be on AGT

Richard first won the hearts of viewers with his AGT audition performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” that aired earlier this year. He earned a Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum who said, “I just have a really soft spot for you in my heart … I think you’re incredible. ”
