Reflecting on the upcoming eight-year mark since Joey’s passing in 2016, Rory shared, “This coming week will be eight years since Joey passed away… In some ways, it feels as if nothing’s changed… but in other ways, it feels like everything has. But the truth is, it’s a little bit of both.”
Despite having doubts about finding love again, Rory shared the sweet news of his new relationship with Rebecca, a women who’s been teaching his daughter Indiana for the past five years.
“Rebecca has been in our life for the last five years, although most of that was her just across the field from me in the one-room schoolhouse, where she’s been teaching my little one and a dozen other children. And though we’ve known each other for a long while, and I’ve always thought highly of her, I never really knew her,” Fleek revealed.
Rory described Rebecca as a “wonderful, kind, generous person who is beautiful inside and out.” Spending more time together outside of the schoolhouse deepened their connection, allowing Rory to truly understand and appreciate Rebecca.
Delving into Rebecca’s past, Rory highlighted the similarities between her experiences and the Feek family’s journey through grief and healing. Cancer played a significant role in both of their lives, with Rebecca having lost close family members to the disease.
Despite taking several years to feel comfortable opening his heart to a new partner, Rory emphasized that he believes he’s not betraying the bond he shared with Joey, something that took him years to understand.
Recalling a moment before Joey’s passing, Rory shared a story of him and his late wife discussing the unfortunate outcome if Joey were to not beat her cancer diagnosis. Although it was hard for him to hear and understand at the time, Joey told Rory that she would want him to one day find love again.
“She looked at me and said, ‘If I don’t make it… I want you to love again.’… I told her, “I don’t want to hear that.” But she gently held my hand and said, “I want you to. You’ll need someone. You and Indy both will.”
Now, Rory has found happiness once again with someone— something he never thought could be possible after Joey.
“I think she knew then, what it would take me years to learn. That love is bigger than time. Bigger than fear. That love doesn’t have to end, for it to begin again.”
