Riley Green’s debut as a coach on The Voice kicked off with an impressive recruit in young singer Joe Henley, who captivated the panel with his traditional country sound.
This week marked the beginning of Season 30 of The Voice, where Green took to the iconic red chairs for the first time. Nineteen-year-old Henley wowed the judges with his rendition of Travis Tritt’s “Anymore,” instantly catching Green’s eye. Prior to his performance, Henley had set his sights on Green as the ideal coach, which made for an exciting competition as Kelly Clarkson also attempted to secure his talent for her team.

Before stepping onto the stage, Henley expressed his hope that Green would turn his chair, remarking on the return of country music to the show and expressing his admiration for the new coach. The anticipation was evident as Henley led off his audition with a powerful voice that resonated well with the audience.

I can’t help it.” Meanwhile, Clarkson highlighted her successful track record with country artists, suggesting that Henley could thrive more on her team.

During the auditions, Henley showcased his influences, citing country greats like Keith Whitley, Don Williams, and George Strait. Recognizing the synergy between himself and the young singer, Green quickly initiated a duet when Henley mentioned that “My Way” was his favorite of Green’s songs. This collaboration not only highlighted their musical chemistry but also solidified Henley’s decision.
As the audition concluded, Henley chose Green as his coach, saying, “I love you, Ms. Kelly, so much, I promise, but I’m gonna go with Mr. Riley Green.” Green, unsurprised, expressed his strategy for the season: to gather as many country artists as possible in hopes of securing a victory for the genre.
