Morgan Wallen Is The First Singer Since 1978 To Have The #1 Summer Song In Back-To-Back Years

Post Malone & Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help” Named Billboard‘s #1 Song Of The Summer For 2024

For the second year in a row, Morgan Wallen has been behind the #1 song of the summer. This year, he accomplished the feat with “I Had Some Help,” his hit collaboration with Post Malone.

Post and Morgan released “I Had Some Help” on May 10. It was the first track Post released from his debut country album, F-1 Trillion. The full album, which also features songs with Blake Shelton, Luke Combs, and Dolly Parton, dropped on August 16.

Post Malone & Morgan Wallen had the #1 song of the summer with "I Had Some Help"

“I Had Some Help” made history when it debuted at the #1 spot on both Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It remained at the #1 position on both charts for its first five weeks…the first song to ever achieve that feat.

Additionally, “I Had Some Help” debuted at the #1 spot on Billboard‘s 2024 Songs of the Summer Chart. It held the top spot for all 14 weeks of the summer season. As Billboard explains, the chart:

“…tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day.”

“Last Night” Was The Song Of The Summer In 2023

“I Had Some Help” made summer music history in multiple ways. For starters, it marks the first time two country songs have been named the #1 summer song in back-to-back years.

Last year’s (2023) #1 summer song was “Last Night,” also by Morgan Wallen. The song has remained popular this year, and it recently became the first song from a solo country artist to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams.

Additionally, Morgan made history as the first singer since 1978 to score the #1 song of the summer in two consecutive years. The last (and only other) artist to do so was Andy Gibb in 1977 and 1978 with “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” and “Shadow Dancing.”

Before “Last Night” topped the chart in 2023, a country song hadn’t been named the #1 song of the summer since 1974. John Denver’s “Annie’s Song” claimed the title that year.

Luke Combs’ version of “Fast Car” was the #2 song of the summer in 2023. This year, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” landed at the #2 spot. Country songs have held the summer chart’s top two spots for two years in a row.

Congratulations to Morgan Wallen and Post Malone on earning the #1 song of the summer! Watch their official music video for “I Had Some Help” below.
