Miranda Lambert Penned 75 Songs Following Blake Shelton Split

Miranda Lambert reflects on the emotional turmoil following her divorce from Blake Shelton, revealing how this challenging period influenced her songwriting and creative process.

In a recent appearance on Ross Golan’s And The Writer Is… podcast, Lambert, now 42, opened up about the “misery” she experienced after their split in 2015, emphasizing the impact it had on her music. As one of country music’s biggest stars, her personal struggles in the public eye have resonated with many fans who relate to the pain of heartbreak.

Channeling Heartbreak into Creativity

Following her divorce, Lambert made the decision to return to Nashville, fully immersing herself in songwriting. She expressed regret over losing touch with this fundamental aspect of her life during her tumultuous years. Inspired by her experiences, she poured her emotions into her sixth studio album, The Weight of These Wings.

Unlike her earlier project, Platinum, where she focused on writing specifically for the record, Lambert allowed her life experiences to shape the music this time around. “When I moved back [to Nashville] in 2015,” she explained, “I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from, you know, all of the previous years and just used it, used the misery.”

She described embracing her late-night honky-tonk adventures and the journey shared with fellow songwriters, leading to an impressive outpouring of creativity. In a remarkably short time, Lambert composed about 75 songs, reflecting on the profound ways her personal struggles fueled her artistry.

“And it was kind of magical. Because I really started growing my songwriting then. It wasn’t writing towards a specific record or a sound or a feisty or whatever. It was, like, raw emotion, and it was worth it. It was worth laying it out there.”
