Landman’s Eighth Episode Of Season 2 Aired On Sunday, January 4
If you have not watched Landman‘s episode titled “Handsome Touched,” which aired on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 4th, do not continue reading. There are SPOILERS AHEAD!
Believe it or not, Landman is now just two weeks from its Season 2 finale, and there are still so many unanswered questions. Before we kick off our Episode 8 recap, read Episode 7’s recap here to catch up. As always, we will break down the episode for you!
Tommy’s Day Starts With A Splash
The episode begins at 7AM with M-Tex’s live-in lawyer, Nate, telling Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) that he is trying to do a risk analysis on what will cost the company more: getting sued for $400 million, or drilling the offshore well. Nate and the company’s other lawyer, Rebecca, have decided that trying to settle with the insurance company that sued them would cost less than attempting to drill.
Tommy goes outside to take in this news when he hears his father’s voice, but couldn’t see where it was coming from. The camera pans to TL (Sam Elliott) sitting on the steps in the pool, and revealed that he fell in, but because of the arthritis in his knees and hips, he couldn’t muster up the strength to get himself out. At least he got himself to the steps!
TL became incredibly emotional about aging and his ailing body, but when Tommy suggested he get a physical therapist over to work with him, TL brushed it off as though he didn’t deserve it.
Tommy helps TL get out of the pool. They hug and TL stares deeply into his son’s eyes, showing just how much he is affected by this incident.
Nate sees Tommy walk in the house all wet and asked if his dad was okay. “He’s the furthest thing from okay,” Tommy replies.
Tommy stops by the strip club, where he asks a stripper named Cheyenne to basically be a physical therapist for his dad to get him a bit stronger. She wonders why he isn’t going to hire a real physical therapist and he replies because his dad is stubborn, but can’t say no to a pretty lady.
She agrees after Tommy pays her in several hundred dollar bills cash.
Later, Cheyenne arrives at the house to work with TL. After seeing the pool, she suggests aqua therapy, where TL will just float and she will rock him back and forth in the water.
They do this for hours. TL says he feels no pain whatsoever.
Angela, Ainsley, And The Folks From The Assisted Living Facility
On his way to start the day, Angela FaceTimes Tommy in a bikini to ask if she can take $10,000 to take the folks that she volunteers with at the assisted living facility to a casino. He reluctantly says yes because Angela promises him something else, if you’re catching our drift.
Angela and Ainsley take the old folks on a bus to the casino and serve them frozen margaritas for the drive. They sing “Sweet Caroline” and then take a nap.
The girls give the retirement home employee a makeover while the residents go shopping in a gas station. When they arrive at the casino, the women hit the slots while the men go to the tables.
Quickly, two of the men lost all their money at the roulette table. Angela teaches them to not bet on numbers, but to choose the color only and the continue betting until they win big.
She bets upwards of $8,000 on black before even winning a penny. Once she does, she continues to let her luck ride, winning her over $90,000 on roulette alone!
Upon arriving home, Tommy finds out she took home over $300,000, and the majority of her winning was from the craps table. Tommy is very happy he let her take the $10,000.
Cooper’s Only Appearance In The Episode
Cooper meets Tommy at the roughnecks’ living facilities, where Tommy tells Dale, Boss, King, and BR about Cooper’s new land and that Cooper will be the project manager on the dig.
Boss was a little skeptical since he was just teaching Cooper how to dig wells, but everyone fell in line once they heard how successful the initial test digs were.
We can only assume that the next two episodes will dive way into this project, seeing as M-Tex has taken over Cooper’s loan with Morell. With Boss talking about how he plans to retire after the summer, and how we know Taylor Sheridan has a way of messing with characters that have plans, we don’t think this project will be all it’s cracked up to be.
Cami Makes A Decision
Tommy gets on a private plane with Rebecca and Charlie, where they are told it will be a bumpy ride, which worries Rebecca. We know what happens to her during turbulence!
At a restaurant, Cami is having lunch and is approached by a man who flirts with her, and eventually tries to wipe salad dressing off her lip. This triggers her because she is still wearing her wedding ring and is nowhere near ready to explore a relationship with someone else.
Minutes later, Rebecca, Charlie (the geologist), and Tommy arrive at Cami’s office to explain to her the situation they are in. Rebecca and Tommy, and Nate on Zoom, try to convince her that her late husband Monty believed litigation would be better than actually digging offshore.
“You could spend $400 million and have nothing to show for it,” Tommy explains.
Cami is determined to dig based on Charlie saying he believes there is gas, although he did warn her there was only a 10% chance they’d find it.
This angered Rebecca to the point of ending her relationship with Charlie. He retaliates by saying she is going to end up a lonely woman if she continues to end relationships if they are not on her terms, and her terms only.
Cami explains to Tommy that none of her friends will call her back and she doesn’t have anyone to talk to about anything, especially about with what happened. Tommy and Cami hug, and Tommy asks her to let him sell the company for him so she can just buy a big house and leave the company behind.
“I don’t want cabana boys. I want success. Get that for me.” she tells Tommy
“I’m tryin’,” he replies.
Following this meeting, Tommy heads to Dan Morell’s office to try to convince him to stop funding because he doesn’t believe the project will be successful and it will put the company out of business.
Morell pretty much says he agree with Tommy, but there is a chance they could make a lot of money from this dig, and if not, all that will be lost is the company. Cami will be fine since she has $240 million in a trust. Morell explains that Monty had no plans of having his wife run the company after his death.
“The music stopped and he didn’t leave her a chair,” Morell said.
Morell asks Tommy if he would do anything different in this business deal if their roles were reversed. We think that’s what is making Tommy so mad. He would do the exact same thing.
