Kris Kristofferson, a legendary singer, songwriter, and actor, is being remembered by his A Star Is Born co-star, Barbra Streisand, following his death at the age of 88.

The 1970s found Kris Kristofferson riding high on the success of numerous hit songs such as “Help Me Make It Through The Night” and “Me and Bobby McGee, both of which were recorded by multiple artists. He also became established as a recording artist and ventured into acting during that decade.

By 1976, Kristofferson had appeared in nearly a dozen movies, including A Star Is Born, a remake of the 1937 film of the same name. The movie starred Kris as a successful rock star who falls in love with an unknown singer, portrayed by Barbra Streisand. The film earned numerous awards, including Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, which were presented to Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand, respectively.

In a 1984 interview with David Letterman, Kris Kristofferson was asked what it was like to work with Barbra Streisand. He told the host, “It was challenging. It was real hard, and it was real rewarding.” He added that although they fought a lot during filming, they ended the project with a mutual respect and affection.

Kris Kristofferson died Saturday, September 28, at the age of 88, according to a statement released by his family. The heartbreaking news led to numerous tributes from Kristofferson’s colleagues, including Barbra Streisand. In a statement shared Sunday, Streisand, 82, recalled the first time she saw Kristofferson and recalled one of their last times singing together. She wrote:

“The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born. In the movie, Kris and I sang the song I’d written for the film’s main love theme, ‘Evergreen.’”

Streisand shared that during a 2019 concert at London’s Hyde Park, she invited Kristofferson to the stage to sing “Lost Inside Of You,” another duet they sang in A Star Is Born.

“He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved,” she said.
