Keith Urban Delivers Vulnerable Performance Of “Messed Up As Me” At The 2024 PCCAs

The People’s Choice Country Awards Are Back With A Heartfelt Performance By Keith Urban

Keith Urban took the stage tonight (September 26th, 2024) to sing his new song, “Messed Up As Me,” at this year’s People’s Choice Country Awards.

Urban is only one of the fantastic performers who took the stage during the 2024 PCCAs. This year’s stunning acts include Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Parker McCollum, and The War and Treaty.

This year’s nominees include Shaboozey, Kane Brown, Kacey Musgraves, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Beyoncé, and Zack Bryan, this year’s highest-nominated artist.

The Origin Of “Messed Up As Me”

The song is from Urban’s new album, HIGH, which was released on September 20th, 2024. Urban took to his socials to talk about how it felt to make this album, which happens to be his first release in four years.

He said in his Instagram caption:

“Out of all of the things that have changed in my life, one has been a constant. I love making music. The feeling of writing a song that has real magic in it, bringing that song to life in the studio, and then playing it on stage and watching complete strangers sing every word. It’s like walking on the moon (not that I’ve done that YET, but an astronaut hasn’t stood on stage and shredded either so….)

Urban continued to say that the album just “FLOWED” and that he was in a “flow state” while creating HIGH.

“My desire is for the ‘flow state,’ and that’s what happened when we started this album HIGH. It just FLOWED and I feel the spirit of the whole album really reflects that. I hope you feel that too.”

“Messed Up As Me” was co-written by Jessie Jo Dillon, this year’s ACM Songwriter of the Year.

Urban brought the soulful song to the People’s Choice Country Awards stage with a paired-down version. It was just him and his guitar.

The song opened with a single beam of light, creating a silhouette of Urban. This made the performance feel intimate and somber, and the crowd was captivated by the first chord.
