Blake Shelton Shares His Version Of the Classic Christmas Carol “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

Blake Shelton Covers Christmas Carol “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

The holiday season is here, and by now, most of us are already enjoying classic Christmas songs to get into the festive spirit.

This year, many country artists have embraced the holidays with new Christmas music. For example, Carly Pearce teamed up with Michael Bublé for their original song, Maybe This Christmas, while Riley Green released his own nostalgic track, Christmas to Me.

Blake Shelton is the latest country star to release a holiday song. He took a more traditional route with his rendition of the Christmas carol “Go Tell It On The Mountain.”

About “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

“Go Tell It on the Mountain” is a well-known Christmas carol that comes from African American spirituals in the 1800s. It became more popular when John Wesley Work Jr. shared it in the early 1900s. The song celebrates the birth of Christ, with its message encouraging people to “go tell it on the mountain.” Over time, artists like Dolly Parton and Lainey Wilson have put their own spin on the song.

Shelton’s version of the song plays during the end credits of the Christmas movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which hit theaters on November 8.

“I love everything about Christmas, especially music that makes me feel as good inside as the holiday itself,” Shelton said. “This movie is fun and heartwarming and captures the true holiday spirit. So we wanted to record a song that expresses reverence and faith and puts a smile on your face. ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ does all of that and I hope our version and the movie become a new Christmas tradition.”

In Mid-November, Blake Shelton also Dropped his New Song, “Texas”

The track is the first solo single that Shelton has released in two years.

Blake Shelton’s new song also nods to the legendary George Strait, drawing inspiration from Strait’s classic hit “All My Ex’s Live in Texas.” In the song, the character is heartbroken and unsure where his love has gone, leading Shelton to shout out a reference to Strait’s iconic lyrics:

“She’s probably in Texas. Amarillo, all I know / George Strait said it, / Yeah, that’s where all them exes go / If she ain’t with me out here in Tennessee / Then I don’t know where she’s headed / If I’m guessin’, I reckon, / She’s probably in Texas / She’s probably in Texas.”
