Triston Harper Joins Cody Johnson For “‘Til You Can’t” Duet On “Idol” Grand Finale
Cody Johnson revealed Sunday morning, May 19th, that he’d grace the Season 22 Grand Finale of American Idol as a guest performer.
While this is Johnson’s first time performing on American Idol, it is not the first time this season that his music has been performed this season.
15-year-old Triston Harper first sang Johnson’s “By Your Grace” during the “Showstopper Round” of Hollywood Week!
He then covered Johnson again on the Top 20 episode, which aired on April 15. Harper was safe from elimination thanks to his cover of “‘Til You Can’t,” which had the judges praising him.
Unfortunately, Harper was sent home in the semifinals episode on May 13 after he performed an incredible rendition of “Life Is A Highway” from Cars for Disney Week.
When it was time for the finale, it only made sense for Harper and Johnson to sing together!
The dynamic duo performed “‘Til You Can’t” for the adoring Idol audience. Johnson started off the song solo while Harper encouraged the audience to clap along. Harper took over leads vocals a few lines in and they joined together for the chorus.
We can’t imagine what Harper was feeling as he was performing with Johnson, a hero of his!
This live performance comes less than a week after Johnson wowed the ACM Awards on Thursday, May 16!
“‘Til You Can’t” was released on October 18, 2021 as the lead single to Johnson’s Human: The Double Album.
The song won Single of the Year and Video of the Year at the 2022 CMA Awards, as well as Best Country Song at the 2023 Grammys. It also reached number one on three different Billboard charts.
