Great American State Fair Lineup: Artist Exits & Updates
The Great American State Fair: Unraveling the Lineup After Unexpected Artist Exits
The countdown to one of America’s most anticipated celebrations is officially underway! The Freedom 250: The Great American State Fair is set to transform the National Mall in Washington, D.C., into a vibrant 16-day festival from June 25th to July 10th. This monumental event aims to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence with a grand spectacle of history, culture, and entertainment. When the initial performer lineup was unveiled on May 27th, excitement buzzed, featuring a diverse mix of musical icons like Martina McBride, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, The Commodores, Flo Rida, and Bret Michaels, alongside various esteemed military performance groups. A Whirlwind of Changes: Artists Begin to Withdraw
However, the celebratory mood took an unexpected turn just one day after the lineup reveal. On Thursday, May 28th, country music star Martina McBride became one of the first to announce her withdrawal, expressing a need to “clear the air.” She detailed her reasons, stating, “I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading. I asked lots of questions and was assured that this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate ALL 50 states… Yesterday, things started changing and what we were told is, in fact, not what is happening.” [EMBED_1]
Rock icon Bret Michaels soon followed suit, citing similar concerns regarding the event’s evolving nature. [EMBED_2] The list of artists withdrawing grew further to include The Commodores, Morris Day, and Young MC. It’s also worth noting the specific performance of Milli Vanilli: while listed, it will be Fab Morvan making the appearance, as Rob Pilatus, the other original member, has sadly passed away. Further adding to the complexity, Jodie Rocco, one of the original singing voices behind Milli Vanilli’s hits, confirmed she and other vocalists were not approached to be part of the event.
Who’s Still Taking the Stage at the Great American State Fair?
With so many changes in such a short time, it’s understandable to wonder who is still confirmed to perform at this historic celebration. As of now, the remaining artists ready to entertain crowds at The Great American State Fair are:
- Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli
- C + C Music Factory
- Vanilla Ice
- Flo Rida

Freedom 250 Responds to the Controversy and Reaffirms Mission
In response to the artists’ cancellations and their expressed concerns, Freedom 250 issued a statement on Instagram, firmly disputing claims that the event was misleading. The organization declared, “Freedom 250 is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to uniting Americans around the nation’s 250th anniversary.” They elaborated on their vision for The Great American State Fair, describing it as a signature celebration bringing together “all 50 states and 6 territories in the Nation’s capital for the first time to celebrate 250 years of our history.” The statement emphasized the event’s goal to showcase what makes America exceptional, from farmers and innovators to military personnel and everyday Americans, promising a “safe, secure, and enjoyable event for all ages – welcoming all who share our goal of commemorating this milestone in a way that uplifts and unites America.” [EMBED_4]
