Toby Keith’s Family Joins 2024 ACM Awards for Jason Aldean’s Tribute The family of Toby Keith expresses gratitude for Jason Aldean’s tribute at the 2024 ACM Awards.
The country music legend passed away on February 5, 2024, after battling stomach cancer for several years. Since his passing, he has been remembered fondly with tributes from various artists, the CMT Music Awards, and his beloved university, OU.
The ACM also honored Toby with a tribute during its annual awards ceremony on Thursday (May 16). His wife, Tricia Covel, made her first public appearance since his death to attend the event.
She was accompanied by their three children, Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen, and Stelen’s wife, Haley.
The Covel family walked the red carpet together before the ceremony. They were also present in the audience when Jason Aldean took to the stage to deliver his tribute to Toby.
Jason performed a unique, ballad-like rendition of Toby’s breakout hit, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” Toby’s loved ones could be seen crying in the audience while watching Jason’s performance

Fans reacted to Jason’s tribute on YouTube, writing:

Toby’s family also reacted to Jason’s performance. They published a statement on Toby’s social media pages, which read:
“The Covel family would like to thank Jason Aldean for the wonderfully touching performance at the ACM Awards tonight. It was the perfect tribute to Toby Keith.”
Jason responded to the family’s statement, commenting:
