Kid Rock Releases First Christian Album, Halfway 2 Jesus, After Feeling Called by His Faith

Kid Rock is entering a new chapter of his musical career with a project rooted in his Christian faith. The rock and country star has announced Halfway 2 Jesus, his first Christian album, bringing together the musical styles that have defined his career with a message centered on Jesus.

The album is scheduled for release on October 17 through his own Top Dog Records. Its lead single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” is already available and draws inspiration from a passage in the New Testament.

In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Kid Rock described the project as a record he felt called to make.

For an artist known for blending rock, country and hip-hop, the album represents a different way of expressing himself. Rather than abandoning his familiar sound, he has used the genres he knows best to create music celebrating his faith.

With 17 tracks, including “Water Into Wine,” “Me and Jesus” and “God Is Good,” Halfway 2 Jesus marks a significant new direction for the longtime performer.

Why Kid Rock Decided to Make a Christian Album

Kid Rock explained his motivation during an August appearance on Fox & Friends. His decision, he said, came from a desire to hear Christian music that reflected his own musical tastes.

Growing up Catholic, he attended Catholic church but found the music difficult to connect with. He also explored Baptist and nondenominational churches in search of a sound that appealed to him.

“Growing up Catholic and going to Catholic church, I was always like, I have to confess this is boring. This music is terrible,” he said.

He explained that other churches offered music he enjoyed, but he still wanted something that combined his faith with the musical styles he loved.

“I decided to write the songs that I kind of wanted to celebrate Jesus and my faith with, which are rock and roll, country, hip-hop,” he said.

That idea became the foundation of Halfway 2 Jesus. Instead of trying to recreate a traditional worship album, Kid Rock chose to approach Christian music through the sounds that have shaped his career.

The result brings together his interest in rock, country and hip-hop with lyrics about belief, redemption and his personal spiritual journey.

The Bible Verse Behind “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)”

The album’s lead single takes its name from James 1:17, a verse in the New Testament that emphasizes God’s goodness and consistency.

The passage reads: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

The message provides a foundation for a song that reflects on mistakes, personal struggles and the role faith can play in someone’s life.

In the track, Kid Rock sings about his experiences and the lessons he believes he has learned along the way.

“I have wandered through the ages and flipped through all your pages,” he sings. “Every stage of life I’ve run through, I refuse to compromise.”

The lyrics continue with references to sin, hardship and finding something more meaningful than material success.

“But when I got right with Jesus Christ, I found things that money can’t buy.”

The song offers a direct expression of the spiritual themes running throughout the album. Rather than presenting faith as an abstract concept, Kid Rock connects it to his own experiences and the changes he says he has undergone.

Reflecting on that journey, he told Fox & Friends that he was excited for listeners to hear the project.

“It’s a crazy journey I’ve been on,” he said. “I’ve grown a lot stronger in my faith.”

The album artwork reinforces that message, depicting Kid Rock walking toward a glowing cross with the devil behind him.

Kid Rock Dedicates His Music Video to Two People Facing Serious Illnesses

Beyond the album’s religious message, the story behind the “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” music video adds a personal dimension to the release.

Filmed at Kid Rock’s honky-tonk in Nashville and directed by Blake Judd, the video is dedicated to two people whose lives have been affected by serious medical challenges.

One is Jimmie Bones, Kid Rock’s longtime keyboard player and a founding member of the Twisted Brown Trucker Band. Bones was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS, in 2024.

ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles.

The second person is Kalvin Lynch, a fan living with an inoperable brain tumor. Lynch’s Make-A-Wish request was to play drums with Kid Rock.

On September 30, Kid Rock addressed the significance of the video in an Instagram post.

“There are some very special people in this video and a real significance to this song and the album to follow,” he wrote.

Their involvement brings an emotional connection to a project already focused on faith, perseverance and the search for meaning during difficult circumstances.

For fans, the dedication also offers a glimpse into the personal relationships and experiences surrounding the album’s creation.

Kid Rock Previously Reached the Top of the Christian Songs Chart

Although Halfway 2 Jesus represents his first Christian album, Kid Rock has already found success with music connected to the genre.

In February, his cover of Cody Johnson’s “’Til You Can’t” reached the top of Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, according to the Detroit News.

The song also appears on Halfway 2 Jesus as track 13, connecting his earlier chart success with the new project’s broader focus on faith.

The album features several notable collaborators from different corners of the music industry.

Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts and Jimmie Allen appear together on the title track. Eminem, Kid Rock’s longtime friend, also appears on a song titled “7 Sins.”

The collaborations reflect the range of musical influences that have followed Kid Rock throughout his career.

The album closes with “God Bless the USA,” adding another patriotic element to the collection.

A New Chapter for Kid Rock

Kid Rock’s career has included rock anthems, country influences, hip-hop collaborations and a public image built around his rebellious personality.

His earlier album Rock N Roll Jesus, released in 2007, used religious imagery within a broader rock and roll identity. Nearly two decades later, Halfway 2 Jesus puts his Christian faith more directly at the center of the project.

The new album does not mean he has abandoned the styles that made him famous. Instead, he has chosen to use those sounds to explore a subject that he says has become increasingly important in his life.

Kid Rock has also indicated that he already has another record prepared, one intended to return to a more traditional approach to his music.

For now, however, Halfway 2 Jesus is the project he wants listeners to hear.

With its 17 tracks, personal lyrics and collaborations across genres, the album offers fans a different perspective on an artist whose career has repeatedly moved between musical worlds.

Whether listeners have followed him for his rock songs, country recordings or outspoken personality, this release introduces a more direct expression of his faith.
