Kelly Clarkson “Devastated” For Her Children After Death Of Their Father Brandon Blackstock
Talent Manager Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband, Dies After Private Cancer Battle
Kelly Clarkson is mourning alongside her two young children after the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away following a private three-year battle with cancer.
Brandon Blackstock’s Career in Music
Brandon worked for many years as a respected talent manager, guiding the careers of major country music stars, including Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, and even Kelly Clarkson herself.
He followed in the footsteps of his father, Narvel Blackstock, a legendary music manager best known for managing Reba McEntire for decades. Narvel and Reba were married from 1989 to 2015, with Brandon becoming part of their blended family at the age of 12.
Marriage to Kelly Clarkson
Kelly and Brandon married in 2013 and welcomed two children together: daughter River Rose in 2014 and son Remington “Remy” Alexander in 2016. Brandon also had two older children, Savannah and Seth, from a previous marriage.
In 2020, Clarkson filed for divorce, which was finalized in 2022, though legal disputes continued into 2024.
A Private Battle With Cancer
On Thursday, August 7, Brandon’s family released a heartfelt statement confirming his passing:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Kelly Clarkson’s Quiet Support
According to PEOPLE, an unnamed source revealed that Clarkson remained “protective” of Brandon’s privacy after his diagnosis, saying:

“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. Kelly has always tried to keep things classy… She’s been devastated for the kids.”
Over the past year, Kelly stepped back from work multiple times to be present for her children.
In March, she missed 10 tapings of The Kelly Clarkson Show without offering a public explanation. Later, she shared that her family had experienced “a dark week,” thanking her children’s joy from previewing The Minecraft Movie for helping lift their spirits.
Just one day before news broke of Brandon’s passing, Clarkson announced the postponement of several shows in her Studio Sessions Las Vegas residency, revealing that her children’s father was ill:
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
Remembering Brandon Blackstock
Brandon leaves behind a lasting legacy in the country music industry and in the lives of his four children. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kelly Clarkson, their children, and all who knew and loved him.
