Jelly Roll Joins Season 23 Of ‘American Idol’ As The Show’s First-Ever “Artist In Residence”

Jelly Roll Set To Join Season 23 Of American Idol

Jelly Roll will be taking on the role of the show’s first-ever “artist in residence.”

The news was officially confirmed by Variety that the “Save Me” singer has landed the gig. According to the outlet, this means that Jelly Roll will be joining the cast and contestants during “Hollywood Week” and periodically during the season.

The title of “artist in residence” is a new addition to American Idol. The role is expected to make the artist a regular and influential presence for each of the contestants. They will provide them with any advice they may need to advance in their journey in the competition.

Thankfully, Jelly Roll is no stranger to Idol and how it works. Not only has the Grammy-nominated artist performed on the show before, but he was also chosen as a guest mentor last season, working alongside American Idol alum Tori Kelly.

Season 23 is already shaping up to be different than what viewers are used to.

Along with the new “artist in residence” role, Carrie Underwood is making her big return to the show, this time as a judge, alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

The full circle moment comes 20 years after Underwood was crowned the show’s winner in Season 4. She will be replacing popstar Katy Perry, who spent seven years as a judge on the show.

With two country superstars now taking their seats behind the judging panel, and Jelly Roll joining as a regular, this season of Idol definitely seems like it is going to lean into the country genre more than it ever has.

Season 23 of American Idol is set to premiere on Sunday, March 9 on ABC. You can also stream it the next day only on Hulu.
