IDOL: Will Moseley Puts Country-Rock Twist On Chris Stapleton’s “The Ballad Of The Lonesome Cowboy”

While May 12th may be celebrated as Mother’s Day, it’s also a magical evening on American Idol: Disney Night takes the stage!

One standout performance of the night was Will Moseley’s rendition of “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy.”

Moseley took on the classic Disney song “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” from the movie Toy Story 4. Written by Randy Newman and recorded by country music superstar Chris Stapleton, the song became an instant classic, and is a favorite of Disney and non-Disney fans alike.

Moseley started off his performance seated on a stool, singing in his signature country-rock style. The background was illuminated with various desert scenes featuring red rocks and a bright blue sky.

Moseley did stumble a little bit mid-song, but quickly recovered. He rose from his seat and really let his voice roar. Then, he hit a series of powerful notes that made the crowd cheer.

Will Moseley is no stranger to arranging songs to suit his vocal style.

In recent weeks, Moseley has not only impressed with his vocal capabilities, but also his ability to arrange songs to suit his preferred style.

For May 5th’s episode, Moseley performed “Rolling In The Deep” for Adele night and he transformed the pop song into a country rock ballad. The week prior, he went full on outlaw country with a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” He also put a personal touch on that performance by doing a guitar solo while circling around the judges’ table.

During the Top 10 episode, he previously channeled his inner Chris Stapleton with a cover of “Starting Over.”

There’s no doubt about it, Moseley is insanely talented and knows how to choose a song! Clearly, the viewers felt so…because they voted him into the Top 3!

Watch him perform “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” below.
