Hardy’s ‘By God’ features authentic country-boy themes. [LISTEN]

Hardy returns with a heartfelt anthem celebrating rural life in his latest single, “By God,” which is featured on his new EP, *Sides*.

Collaborating with co-writers Zach Abend and Hunter Phelps, Hardy delivers a refreshingly authentic perspective that resonates with those who cherish the freedom of country living over urban existence. As country music continues to evolve, “By God” stands out not only for its lyrical depth but also for its sonic elements, capturing the essence of a lifestyle that many value.

Embracing the Country Life

The song kicks off with a robust chorus that sets the tone for Hardy’s appreciation of nature and simplicity. With direct lines about preferring “clean outdoor air” to “highrise livin’,” he paints a vivid picture of his ideals. Lyrics such as “Wouldn’t catch me dead where the concrete lays” reflect a disdain for city life, emphasizing a longing for authenticity.

The imagery continues as Hardy references “tomatoes in the garden” and a “Nellybelle” parked in the yard, evoking nostalgia for a simpler existence. The term Nellybelle, a nod to the beloved Jeep from the *Roy Rogers Show*, illustrates the quirky charm often found in these rural settings. A drive through the countryside, littered with rusting vehicles, symbolizes the freedom that comes from living outside the confines of urban regulations.

Hardy’s storytelling shines through with clever phrasing, such as “shell cracker in the grease,” referring to cooking up sunfish, adding texture to the narrative. He seamlessly incorporates regional slang and references, allowing listeners to connect personally with each line.
