Fans Go Wild After Thomas Rhett & Teddy Swims’ CMA Awards Performance

Thomas Rhett and Teddy Swims Join Country’s Elite at the 58th CMA Awards in Nashville”
“The 58th CMA Awards are underway, bringing country music’s biggest stars to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to celebrate the year’s top achievements. This 3-hour special honors the best performers, songs, and albums of 2024, with live performances lighting up the stage.”

Among the performers this year are Thomas Rhett and cross-genre star Teddy Swims. The two took the stage to sing their newly-released single, “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman,” and Swims’ own chart-topping hit, “Lose Control.”

“Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman” was originally released in August as a track from Thomas Rhett’s latest album, About A Woman, and served as an ode to his wife, Lauren. But on November 15, the country star shared that he was releasing a new version of the song in collaboration with Teddy Swims.

“Somethin’ ‘Bout A Woman” isn’t the first collab for Rhett and Swims. The pair previously teamed up in 2020 for “Broke,” and Swims served as a co-writer on T.R.’s song “Angels (Don’t Always Have Wings).”

Teddy Swims’ song “Lose Control” launched him to stardom in 2023.

Released as the second single from his debut studio album, “Lose Control” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 2024. The song stayed in the Top 10 for 43 weeks.

Penned by Swims along with Julian Bunetta, Ammo, Infamous, and Mikky Ekko during a four-day writing camp, “Lose Control” was inspired by Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and intended to become a karaoke favorite.

“With that song, it’s all about the run,” Swims says. “If you can’t hit that run, why would you even sing it?”

The singer told Variety that he knew as soon as he sang the vocals that the song was something special.

“For the first time in my career, I thought … ‘this is going to change my life,’” he said. And it did.

Thomas Rhett and Teddy Swims’ collaboration at the CMA Awards was eerily similar to that of Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton’s collab in 2015.

The 2015 CMA Awards marked Chris Stapleton’s country music breakthrough. The acclaimed songwriter was known behind the scenes for his unmatched voice and talent, but few outside of Nashville knew who he was.

Stapleton’s performance with Timberlake, along with his three award wins (Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, and New Artist of the Year), changed the trajectory of his career. Almost overnight, Chris Stapleton became one of the hottest acts in country music.

While Thomas Rhett and Teddy Swims have already achieved superstar status, fan response following their incredible performance leave no doubt that their collab will be talked about for years to come.
