“Duck Dynasty” Star John Godwin’s Twin Granddaughters Are In The NICU
John Godwin’s Daughter Gave Birth Early After She Started Developing Signs Of Preeclampsia While Pregnant With Twins
Duck Dynasty star John Godwin recently appeared on the Duck Call Room podcast to talk about his twin granddaughters’ early arrival.
Godwin’s daughter, Johanna, was pregnant with twin girls. Everything was going well at first, but she became concerned when her blood pressure climbed to 160/105. High blood pressure in pregnancy can be a sign of preeclampsia, a condition that can be fatal to a pregnant mother and baby (or babies) if ignored.
Johanna went to the hospital, hoping the doctors could treat the problem and keep her from giving birth early. However, when it comes to preeclampsia, early delivery is often recommended in an effort to protect the mother and her baby (or babies).
Johanna found herself in that situation. She called Godwin and his wife, Paula, saying, “‘Y’all need to get up here, y’all fixin’ to have grandkids.”
Godwin went “over the speed limit a little bit” to reach Johanna before she was taken into the operating room. However, Paula didn’t think he was going fast enough.
“Paula looked at me, and she’s doing the point down the road,” Godwin said. “She hit the flasher button and I mashed on it. And we got there in 40 minutes.”
However, they didn’t arrive in time to see Johanna before her C-section.
How Are John Godwin’s Twin Granddaughters Doing Since Their Birth?
John Godwin’s granddaughters, Cassandra and Isabella, were born in mid-December. A post Godwin shared on Facebook on December 22 reads:
“Well, the Babies are here. Earlier than we wanted but they are doing great!!“
Since they were born prematurely, the girls have been in the NICU.
Thankfully, Johanna’s symptoms improved after the girls’ birth. She had to be on magnesium and looked pale for a couple days, but has since gotten better.
As for Cassandra and Isabella, they’ve been growing stronger and may get to come home soon. Johanna shared an update on the girls on December 28, writing:
“Both are off cpap, light blankets, and feeding tubes! We are working on eating and gaining weight, and monitoring their oxygen and hearts as they learn to do all the things they need to do to come home. They are excelling in everything and we are hopeful that maybe we are looking at coming home very soon!“
Hear Godwin speak more about his granddaughters in the Duck Call Room episode below. We’ll be keeping Cassandra, Isabella, Johanna, and their entire family in our prayers.
