Doug Sheehan, Star Of “Knots Landing” & “General Hospital,” Dies At Age 75
Doug Sheehan Was Known For His Work On General Hospital & The Dallas Spin-Off Knots Landing
Doug Sheehan, the actor known for playing beloved characters on shows such as Knots Landing and General Hospital, has died.
Sheehan was born on April 27, 1949, in Santa Monica, California. He landed his first role as a character named Ben Anderson in a 1978 episode of Charlie’s Angels.
Just one year later, the actor joined the cast of the popular soap opera General Hospital. He played lawyer Joe Kelly in 205 episodes from 1979 to 1982.
Sheehan earned a supporting actor Daytime Emmy nomination for his performance on the show.
One year after leaving General Hospital, Sheehan landed another career-defining role. He was cast as the journalist Ben Gibson in the Dallas spin-off Knots Landing. In total, Sheehan appeared in 115 episodes of Knots Landing from 1983 to 1988.
After Knots Landing, Sheehan played Brian Harper on the NBC comedy series Day by Day. The show only lasted for two seasons before it ended.
He also portrayed Cher’s father, Mel Horowitz, in 44 episodes of the UPN sitcom Clueless, which was based on the movie of the same name.

Sheehan continued to act throughout the 1990s and early 2000s in shows such as Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Promised Land, and Diagnosis: Murder. His last onscreen appearance was in a 2003 episode of the sitcom What I Like About You.
Sheehan died at his home in Big Horn, Wyoming, on June 29. He was 75 years old.
