Cracker Barrel Changes Logo After 48 Years
Cracker Barrel’s History Dates Back to 1969
Cracker Barrel first opened its doors in 1969 in Lebanon, Tennessee. Founder Dan Evins wanted to create a place where travelers could stop, relax, and enjoy a good meal. At that time, both the logo and the menu looked hand drawn and very simple.
By 1977, the restaurant chain had grown to 13 locations and introduced a new logo. That design featured Uncle Herschel, Dan Evins’ real-life uncle.

Who Was Uncle Herschel?
Uncle Herschel wasn’t just a face in the logo—he became the soul of Cracker Barrel. According to the company’s website, he spent years visiting old country stores, sharing stories, and becoming a familiar figure in many southern communities.
After retirement, Uncle Herschel brought his philosophy of treating people the way you want to be treated into every Cracker Barrel store. His sincerity and neighborly spirit shaped the company’s culture for decades. In fact, there is even a statue of Uncle Herschel at the Lebanon, Tennessee, location.
Cracker Barrel’s Logo Through the Years
For nearly five decades, Cracker Barrel’s logo stayed true to its original yellow-and-brown design, with Uncle Herschel always at the center. Although the shade of yellow brightened over time, the image remained a constant symbol of the brand.
That changed in 2025, when Cracker Barrel decided to rebrand for the first time in 48 years.
The 2025 Cracker Barrel Logo Redesign
In 2025, Cracker Barrel revealed its new modern logo. The design keeps the iconic yellow and brown colors but introduces a cleaner, modernized font. According to the company, the logo is now “more closely rooted to the iconic barrel shape and word mark that started it all.”
However, not all fans welcomed the change. Some longtime customers took to social media to express disappointment, with one writing: “Why did you get rid of Uncle Herschel? Is nothing sacred?”
Rebrand Includes Restaurant Upgrades
Alongside the logo update, Cracker Barrel confirmed that restaurant upgrades have also been in the works. In a recent interview, the CEO explained that these improvements are part of the company’s long-term growth strategy.
To help debut the new look, country singer Jordan Davis even filmed a new music video in partnership with the brand.
