Boston Hockey Crowd Boos Canadian Anthem After Team USA Got The Same Treatment In Canada

The U.S. Hockey Team Made History With The Fastest Fight Ever To Break Out

The United States secured a spot in the 4 Nations hockey tournament against Canada on Saturday, February 15.

The game made history when the fastest fight ever broke out during a hockey match. The previous record for the quickest fight was 20 seconds, set during the 1996 World Hockey Championship.

Why Did The Fights Occur Between Canada And The U.S.?

In addition to setting records, the U.S. and Canada had three consecutive fights at the beginning of the game.

The U.S. players, brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk and their teammate J.T. Miller, chose to fight at the beginning of the match because Canadian fans booed the U.S. National Anthem before the game started.

Canada forward Travis Konecny discussed the game-opening fights. Konecny plays for the Philadelphia Flyers and shared why players (who play together in the NHL throughout the year) get so passionate when wearing their nation’s colors.

He said, “We’re one of the only sports that still has fighting in it. It’s a war out there. It’s funny: You put the flag behind the meaning of something, and guys’ switches just kind of flip.”

The United States ended up winning the game 3-1 after an early first goal by Canada.
