Alan Jackson Celebrates As His Romantic Song “Remember When” Turns 20 Years Old In 2023

“Remember When” by Alan Jackson is one of the greatest country love songs ever written. Alan wrote the song on his own, and released it as the last single off of his compilation album Greatest Hits Volume II.

The song has Alan reflecting on his life with his wife, Denise. The two of them are high school sweethearts, and they married on December 15, 1979.

Alan and Denise went on to welcome three daughters: Mattie, Ali, and Dani. They now have a young grandson (Ali’s son), named Jackson.

In “Remember When,” Alan looks back on all of the memories he and Denise have made together. He also looks to the future, when they’ll sit back and remember the moments they’re living in the present.

As he sings, “Remember when thirty seemed so old. Now lookin’ back, it’s just a steppin’ stone…to where we are, where we’ve been. Said we’d do it all again. Remember when.”

Denise also appears in Alan’s official music video for “Remember When.”

“Denise and I met as kids, and all that’s true. And most of that is just reflections of our life, and some of it looking ahead.”

While “Remember When” was inspired by Alan’s love for Denise, the song resonated with thousands of other people. That’s why it ended up reaching the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and the 29th position on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

I’ve had so many comments saying, ‘That’s one of my favorite songs,’ or ‘That’s our song,’” Alan said in the clip celebrating the song’s anniversary. “I have so many couples come up and say, ‘That’s our song.’…It connected with a certain audience, I guess.”
