The Story Behind “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”

The duet “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” was released in May 1973, written by Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen.

The song soared to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the U.S. and also hit #1 on the Canadian country chart.

Though it only stayed at #1 for one week, the single spent a total of 13 weeks on the chart. The hit also earned Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn a Grammy nomination for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

A Duet Revisited

This wasn’t the first time Jackson and Womack brought new life to the famous duet. In 2019, they performed “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” at Loretta Lynn’s 87th birthday celebration, enchanting the crowd with their chemistry and vocals.

At the 2021 ACM Honors, they once again recaptured that magic. Viewers called their rendition one of the standout performances of the night.
