One year ago, the country music world mourned the loss of iconic singer, songwriter, and patriot Toby Keith. The 62-year-old passed away surrounded by his loved ones after losing his battle with stomach cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2021 and fought valiantly until the end.

The tragic news was shared in a statement online the following morning. It read:

“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

Toby Keith made an immeasurable mark during his decades-long career. He established a thriving charity in support of children battling cancer, impacted hundreds of thousands of troops through his partnership with the USO, made music that inspired many, and prioritized his family over everything.

The Country Music Hall of Fame member left behind his wife of nearly 40 years, Tricia, their three children, Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen, and several grandchildren.

Toby Keith’s Team Remembers Him With Heartfelt Statement

The late musician’s team has kept his social media accounts active following his death as a way to stay connected to his fans. Today (Feb 5), they shared a touching tribute to Toby Keith online, remembering and honoring his legacy. They wrote:

“We can’t believe it’s been a year since the world lost Toby. We have a hole in our heart and our lives. The love and support from the community that Toby created has left us all thankful and grateful.”

The message continued:

“We know he would be proud of the legacy he left behind. Today we hope you will celebrate and listen to his music with us, where we know he is smiling down and raising his cup. A toast to a life well lived.”
