Chris Stapleton And Miranda Lambert Perform Duet Of “What Am I Gonna Do” For The First Time Live
During a recent show in Houston, Texas, Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert performed their song “What Am I Gonna Do” live for the first time together.
On Saturday, August 24, Miranda Lambert opened for Chris Stapleton at his show at Minute Maid Park for his ‘The All-American Road Show’ tour. In addition to her opening performance, the two country stars surprised the audience with a duet.
Lambert and Stapleton co-wrote the song “What Am I Gonna Do” together, which is the opening track on Stapleton’s 2023 album Higher. Although the song’s original version features Stapleton’s wife, Morgane, Lambert stepped in for her for the night.
The emotional track tells the story of a devastating breakup, portraying a man who struggles to envision life without the woman he loves. Overwhelmed by the pain of losing her, he turns to alcohol to cope and finds himself unable to move on from the heartache.
“What am I gonna do / When I get over you? / What am I gonna be / When you’re just a memory? / What am I gonna drink / When I don’t have to think / About what I’m gonna do / Without you?”
“Been drinkin’ everything on that shelf / Feels like I’m killin’ myself / You’re gone, and it hurts like hell / Wishin’ I was anybody else.”

This isn’t the first time Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert have pulled off a surprise performance.
Lambert and Stapleton have been friends for many years and have frequently surprised fans with impromptu duets. For instance, in 2017, Lambert joined Stapleton and his wife, Morgane, to perform Stapleton’s song “Fire Away” together.
Additionally, Lambert filled in for Morgane once again at the ACM Awards in 2021, where she joined Stapleton to perform his song “Maggie’s Song” after Morgane was unable to attend.
