‘Yellow Rose’ returns home | Community honors Ella Cahill, 21, lost in Hill Country floods
The body of Ella Rose Cahill, a 21-year-old Kelly High School graduate who died in the devastating Texas Hill Country flood, was brought home Thursday under official escort, with an estimated arrival in Beaumont between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The Beaumont Police Department announced the procession route that began on Highway 90, continued along College St to 11th Street, Calder Ave, Fourth St and ended at Broussard’s Mortuary on McFaddin. The coordinated escort involved local law enforcement and fire department personnel.
“Let us stand together in tribute to Ella’s beautiful spirit and surround her family with the strength, love, and compassion they need during this unimaginable time,” police said.

“My beautiful, intelligent, & loving sister, Ella, has been found. Although we are grateful for answers, it still hurts the same. It’s not fair. She needed more time. We all needed more time with her. I’m mad, sad, but at peace knowing she isn’t suffering anymore,” Mackenzie Hodulik, Ella’s sister, wrote on Facebook late Tuesday night.
The Beaumont Police Department invited the community to show support by wearing yellow and lining the procession route, especially along Calder Avenue. The family called Cahill their “Yellow Rose,” according to police.
“The Beaumont community is invited to come together in love and support as we welcome home Ella Cahill, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend who tragically lost her life in the recent floods in Kerr County, Texas,” the police department said in a statement.
Cahill attended St. Anne Catholic School through eighth grade before graduating from Kelly High School. She was a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio along with her friend Manchaca.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our beloved alumna, Ella Rose Cahill, St. Anne Class of 2018,” the Catholic school said in a statement. “Ella was an exceptional student, renowned for her passion for sports and her commitment to community service. Her presence was a source of joy and encouragement to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by our community.”
