Willie Nelson Announces 154th Studio Album, ‘Oh What A Beautiful World’
I mean… he defies everything.
This morning, Willie Nelson announced his 77th solo studio album, and 154th album overall, Oh What A Beautiful World, which focuses on the songs of Rodney Crowell and his extensive discography.
Just last year, Willie put out Last Leaf On The Tree, which was produced by his son Micah, and this new one will be out everywhere just a few days before Willie’s birthday on April 25th (his birthday is April 29th).
Of course, Willie and Rodney have known each other for years, having both crossed paths many times in Texas. In fact, Willie recorded his first Rodney Crowell song in 1983, and last did so 40 years later for his 2024 album The Border. Oh What A Beautiful World will be produced by Nelson’s longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, and features some of Nashville’s best session musicians, as well as his trusty guitar, Trigger.
Willie handpicked 12 of his favorite songs from the last 50 years, including the title track, which is a duet between Nelson and Crowell. It also includes “Banks Of The Old Bandera” (recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker) and 1981’s “Shame On The Moon” (a hit for Bob Seger), as well as 90s tracks like “What Kind Of Love,“ (co-written by Will Jennings based on a Roy Orbison melody), “Stuff That Works” (co-written with Guy Clark), and even some early 2000’s cuts written for albums by Keith Urban and Tim McGraw, as well as four cuts from Crowell’s beloved 2010s albums and a cut released as recently as 2021.
It’s hard to put into words just how impressive it is that Willie has yet another record coming out at the young age of 91 (almost 92), but I’m thankful for it and couldn’t be more excited:
“New album, ‘Oh What A Beautiful World,’ will be available everywhere on April 25! Hear the title track featuring Rodney Crowell now and pre-save the full album at the link in bio.”
The red headed stranger will probably outlive us all…
