(Watch) Fans Are Loving Jelly Roll + MGK’s ‘Tonight Show’ Performance of ‘Lonely Road’

Jelly Roll visited with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Monday night (Sept. 30), and he brought a few friends. MGK and Travis Barker joined the singer for a stirring performance of “Lonely Road.”

The “I Am Not Okay” singer also spoke with Fallon about his cut-for-time skit on Saturday Night Live and accidentally smashing his CMA Award last fall, but it was his musical performance that had fans atwitter on X (formerly Twitter).

“This is the best performance I’ve ever seen on late night TV,” one MGK fan says. “Take this video, edit it, share it, and let’s take this song all the way to the top!”
Jelly, Machine Gun Kelly and a chorus of backing singers start the song without accompaniment. “Lonely Road” interpolates John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” from 1971, with new lyrics written by Jelly Roll, MGK, Barker and more.

As the CMA New Artist of the Year begins his second verse, the two singers walk to the interview area, with MGK taking Fallon’s seat and Jelly Roll taking the couch. Barker keeps a steady beat from the performance stage, but the vocals of this song are what are drawing attention.

See for yourself.

At the PCCAs in September, MGK thanked Denver’s family for blessing his recreation of the iconic folk/country song. The oft-covered hit was most recently re-imagined in 2016, when the CMA Awards used it to begin “Forever Country,” a celebration of 50 years of CMAs.
