George Strait named the recipient of the CMA Lifetime Achievement Award

Prior to the CMAs, it was announced that George Strait would receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. This award distinguishes an artist who has “achieved both national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, streaming numbers, record sales, and public representation at the highest level.”

Strait joins an elite group of previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, including Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Alan Jackson.

A stellar lineup of country music artists perform in honor of King George

Just before George Strait took the CMA stage to accept his award, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, and Parker McCollum joined forces to celebrate the musical icon. With 60 number-one hits under his belt, choosing just a few songs to highlight George Strait is no small feat.

Lainey Wilson kicked things off with an acoustic performance of “Amarillo By Morning.” Next, Jamey Johnson sang Strait’s 2006 hit, “Give It Away.”

Fellow Texans Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum followed with a duet of “Troubador.” Finally, King George himself took the stage with Chris Stapleton for a high-energy performance of their new collaboration “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame.”
