Toby Keith’s Best Fourth of July Songs, Ranked

While there are many patriotic songs in country music, there are few artists whose names are synonymous with all things red, white and blue. Toby Keith is easily one of the biggest fans of the United States and those who defend her each and every day.

Toby Keith’s Love for America

Keith was a staunch believer in the American way. He was proud to call himself a citizen of these United States, and he wasn’t afraid to call out those who would seek to do us wrong. How else do you write a song like “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”

How Did Toby Keith Die?

Keith singer passed away on Feb. 5, 2024 after a long battle with stomach cancer. He first revealed his diagnosis in June 2022. He was 62 years old when he passed.

July 4, 2024 marks the first Independence Day without the man who has essentially become the soundtrack to gatherings all over the nation. In honor of the holiday and as a remembrance to the late Toby Keith, we’ve compiled a list of his best Fourth of July songs.

Fourth of July is a day to raise a glass to America. We’re willing to bet that glass will likely be a red Solo cup instead. As people gather together in celebration of our nation’s birthday, this cheap and disposable receptacle is perfect for every barbecue, tailgate, fair and festival. So let’s have a party, America!

Keith sings of a bar filled with people from all different backgrounds in “I Love This Bar.” Despite the differences however, everyone is gathered together as if in one big melting pot. Sound familiar?
This bar is reminiscent of our nation — a melting pot of cultures and backgrounds, hope and dreams. It’s what makes this country so beautiful.

Not every song played on Fourth of July needs to be a patriotic one. Although this is a breakup song, it feels like the perfect messaging to the country we broke free from. How do you like us now, England?! You thought you could control us, but we wanted something better.

At any Fourth of July gathering you need a song that brings everyone together. We are the United States, after all. When Keith passed away in February 2024, this song was the one that everyone sang in his honor.
Artists all over covered it and fans turned to it for comfort during their mourning. It also celebrates cowboy culture, which is a part of American history.

6. “The Taliban Song”

A staunch supporter of our military, Keith took multiple trips overseas to perform for our troops. It’s rumored that this song was a favorite among soldiers because it makes fun of the oppressive Taliban organization.
At one point he says he’ll flip the finger to them. With so many of our heroes sacrificing to free people from this group’s tyranny over the years, it’s fitting for July 4.

5. “American Ride”

Surprisingly, Keith did not write this one. Dave Pahanish and Joe West penned the song that essentially highlights the absurdity of America. Hey, we all have our flaws, don’t we?
The track is meant to be funny and not a manifesto on what is right or wrong. Keith gobbled the song up and even changed the title from “American Life” to “American Ride.”

4. “Happy Birthday America”

The title alone tells you this is a song that should be played on America’s birthday, however, Keith takes a different approach than the simple song we sing over a cake filled with candles.
Instead, he questions the hate people feel toward this nation, even from within its borders. The song praises America’s ideals of freedom and justice while wondering why anyone would want to change that.

3. “Made in America”

Keith tells a wonderful story of a man who has sacrificed and fought to defend this nation. He’s brave, resilient and proud of America.
It’s a blessing to be a part of this nation, even more so if you had the privilege of growing up here. This song is an anthem of American pride for those who bleed Red, White and Blue. It’s easily one of the best songs to crank up on the Fourth of July.

2. “American Soldier”

A song about our brave men and women in uniform? Of course it’s going to be a stellar song on a day celebrating our nation’s independence.
Our U.S. soldiers are the reason we have the freedoms that we enjoy today. Keith’s song is a perfect way to remember our heroes who defend the Red, White and Blue on America’s birthday.

There’s no denying this is by far Keith’s best Fourth of July song. The lyrics are essentially an anthem to our nation’s independence and a battle cry against anyone who threatens our freedom.
The lyrics paint some pretty epic images of Lady Liberty shaking her fist and a big ol’ combat boot kicking someone’s rear. Today, we celebrate America and we don’t care who doesn’t like it.
