Season 28 of The Voice premiered on Monday night (September 22), and one performance left returning coach Reba McEntire in tears.

This season promises plenty of country music talent, thanks in part to the Queen of Country herself returning to the coach’s chair. During the two-hour premiere, several country artists took the stage, but one contestant in particular moved Reba in a way fans won’t forget.

Manny Costello Earns a Two-Chair Turn with Craig Morgan Cover

Manny Costello, a 28-year-old proud girl dad, delivered an emotional cover of Craig Morgan’s “Almost Home.” His heartfelt performance earned him a two-chair turn from Reba McEntire and Snoop Dogg.

This marked the second time the two coaches went head-to-head over a contestant. Earlier in the night, Snoop used his only block to steal country artist Mindy Miller from Reba. This time, there were no blocks—just a battle for Manny’s heart.

Reba McEntire’s Emotional Reaction

As soon as Costello finished singing, Reba’s voice cracked with emotion. She admitted the performance made her “homesick” and reminded her of country legends.

“It took me back to all the greats I’ve been so fortunate to be able to listen to in my life,” Reba shared. “You’ve gotten qualities from George Jones and Haggard, and there’s a little Randy in there. It’s just a great combination.”

Overcome with emotion, Reba added:
“Gosh dang, why do I get so emotional? It’s tears of joy because I feel very blessed to have been in the country music business all these years. You just triggered something that needed to come out and say, ‘Happy to be here.’”

Snoop Dogg and Niall Horan React

Snoop Dogg also praised Manny’s voice, joking that it reminded him of the time he was with Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson working on “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die.”

Even though Coach Niall Horan didn’t turn his chair, he was quick to point out the impact Manny had:
“That’s the biggest compliment that Reba can give you. You moved the Queen of Country Music to tears. That’s amazing.”
