Following her performance, the “Country’s Cool Again” singer got the surprise of a lifetime. Coach Reba McEntire, expressing her pride in Wilson’s career, joined her on stage to ask her to become the newest member of the historic Grand Ole Opry.
“I have heard that I’ve inspired you and what you’ve done so far, and I’m thrilled to death if I had anything to do with your career because you are blowin’ it up…I couldn’t be more proud to be the one that helps you continue to bridge the gap between our generations. I’d like to be the person to invite you to be an official member of the Grand Ole Opry.”
In an emotional moment, Wilson tearfully accepted the honor, expressing her admiration for McEntire and thanking her for the unforgettable surprise.
“It is so crazy that you are asking me to be a member because I look up to you so much. I’m not talking about just musically, but the way you carry yourself, your work ethic. You inspire me every day.”
