Carrie Underwood never disappoints us when it comes to releasing and even writing country gospel songs. Her singles are always inspired by a story she heard, an experience she had, or something she saw. Her song “Temporary Home” is no different from all of her classic gospel songs that hit the top of the chart.
Carrie Underwood’s Inspiration for “Temporary Home”
On an interview with the Boot, Underwood shared how she was inspired to write the song. Before she wrote it, Underwood was reading the book Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. In one chapter of the book, she stumbled upon a story that says this place is only our temporary home; and being a Christian, Underwood completely agrees and believes in this statement. When she met up with her co-writers, Luke Laird and Zac Maloy, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.
Three-part Story
The song is intensely emotional that when you listen to it, it’ll bring you to tears. There are three stories narrated in this single. First, is about a foster boy who was adopted by his new parents. When he was asked if he likes his new home, he answered them with these words:
The second story tells about a mother who’s trying to find a good job to support her needs and her child’s needs. It is followed by an old man in a hospital bed telling his loved ones not to cry for this is just his temporary home. He comforts them by saying, “I can see God’s face.”

We definitely agree not only to Rick Warren’s book saying that this is our temporary home, but we also agree with Underwood’s single. Whatever we do here is not forever. That’s why we should not worry about tomorrow and we should not be afraid because life here is not going to last forever. Our true home is in God’s hands, it’s in heaven.
The Country Charts
Aside from being such an inspiring and hopeful song, “Temporary Home” reached number one on the country chart and it also secured a spot on the Hot 100 chart. Underwood’s single was also nominated in various music awards and won some of it as well.
