Dolly Parton is feeling sentimental about the love story she wrote with her husband, Carl Dean.
Dolly has granted several interviews since Carl’s passing. She’s gotten incredibly vulnerable as she’s shared her heartbreak and grieving process with her fans.
“It’s a big adjustment just trying to change patterns and habits,” she said during an emotional interview in May. “I’ll do fine, and I’m very involved in my work, and that’s been the best thing that could happen to me. But I’ll always miss him, of course, and always love him. He was a great partner to me.
Dolly has continued working since Carl’s passing. However, she was forced to postpone her Las Vegas residency to tend to her health.
After people grew concerned about her well-being, Dolly shared a video to clear the record. She said she’s doing just fine, but needs to focus on some minor health issues that she neglected while caring for Carl and mourning his death.
Dolly Parton Gets Misty-Eyed While Reflecting On Her Love Story
PEOPLE recently interviewed Dolly Parton for a cover story about her life, career, and love story. The publication filmed portions of their interview, including the moment when Dolly shared how much Carl meant to her.
“Ours is like a great old love story,” she said, appearing teary-eyed in a social media clip from the interview. “You know, most people don’t stay that close that long.”
Dolly continued to say that she thinks Carl would approve of the way she has shared their story with the world. She offers a small look into their lives together in her new production, Dolly: A True Original Musical, slated for a Broadway debut in 2016.
“I think that he’d appreciate how I’ve presented our love,” she said.
Despite the heartache, Dolly says she’s still “happy” knowing Carl will forever be with her. “...he will always be in my heart and in my memories,” she said with a soft smile.
