Surprise Guest Joins Post Malone For Energetic Cover Of Johnny And June’s “Jackson”

Post Malone Had An Event At Music Marathon Works In Nashville On Tuesday (July 16) And Threw In Some Country Classics That No One Was Expecting.

The rapper-turned-country singer Post Malone was performing at his event called “A Night in Nashville” which included a set list of 14 songs and surprise appearances from Blake Shelton, Joe Nichols, Sierra Ferrell, and HARDY. Shelton joined him on stage to perform their brand-new duet “Pour Me A Drink” and Shelton’s 2004 hit song “Some Beach.” Nichols came on stage to perform his 2002 hit song, “Brokenheartsville,” with Posty, while HARDY and the “I Got Some Help” singer gave the live debut of their collaboration “Hide My Gun.” They also sang a cover of “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die).”

Who Is Sierra Ferrell?

We knew every other surprise guest quite well, but when Ferrell took the stage, she was new to us. She is a singer from West Virginia who mixes elements of folk, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and Latin styles such as tango and calypso into her music.

Her 2021 album Long Time Coming is critically acclaimed and help her win the 2022 Americana Music Honors & Award for Emerging Artist of the Year. She has collaborated with the likes of Zach Bryan and Billy Strings.

It Seems Post Malone Might Be Including Ferrell On His Upcoming Debut Country Album, F-1 Trillion, Which Will Be Released On August 16.

She joined him on his song “Never Love You Again,” which he debuted earlier this year at the ACM Awards. While it hasn’t been announced that “Never Love You Again” is on the album, we doubt he would debut it and continue to perform it if it is not. The 18-track album only has two confirmed songs, “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen and “Pour Me A Drink” with Shelton. He has also teased collaborations with Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, and now, HARDY.

After That, Ferrell Stayed On Stage To Pay Tribute To One Of The Most Iconic Duos In Country Music History, Johnny Cash And June Carter Cash.

“Jackson” is a classic country duet famously performed by Johnny Cash and June Carter. Released in 1967, the song was originally written by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Leiber. It tells the story of a disenchanted couple who seek excitement and renewal in the titular city of Jackson. The lyrics, delivered with playful banter and spirited vocals, capture the essence of a relationship fraught with frustration yet brimming with a desire for adventure and change.

Johnny and June took the song to the No. 2 spot on the charts and even won a Grammy Award for Best Country & Western Performance Duet, Trio or Group.

While it is so difficult to embody the spirit of Johnny and June, somehow…Post Malone and Sierra Ferrell did just that. Watch their performance below!
