Remember When George Strait and Eric Church Teamed Up To Sing ‘Cowboys Like Us?’

George Strait

In 2014, George Strait invited several of country music’s hottest stars to join him at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to help him bid farewell to his touring career. Although he still plays stadiums here and there and performs in Las Vegas every now in then, this star-studded show marked the end of his yearly tours.

Artists such as Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride performed alongside Strait and it was all captured on film for a two-hour CMT Special, George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away.

One of the most memorable performances from that night was between Strait and Church, who joined forces to sing Strait’s 2003 hit, “Cowboys Like Us.”

Although their musical styles are a bit different, Church believes he and “The King of Country Music” have a lot in common.

“There’s a commonality in our career paths,” Church once said. “We were doing it our own way at a time when everybody was doing it a different way. I don’t have any more respect for anybody else than I do for George Strait. I respect him more than anyone. It’s been great to get know him and become friends with him and have somebody you can talk to about certain things.”

More than 104,000 fans were there to witness Strait’s farewell concert, which at the time, shattered North American concert attendance records.
