Remember When Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis Performed Together On ‘American Idol?’

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood, one of the most successful American Idol winners of all time, returned to the show five years after her big win to perform a duet with country music legend Randy Travis.

The pair joined forces on the Idol stage in 2009 during Grand Ole Opry Week on Idol to perform a stunning rendition of “I Told You So.” Underwood and Travis, who are both members of the Grand Ole Opry, delivered a memorable performance of the song while seated next to one another behind the iconic Opry microphone stands.

“I Told You So” was originally recorded by Travis and rose to No.1 in 1988. Underwood recorded a cover of the song for her 2007 album, Carnival Ride, and later teamed up with Travis to record a duet of the song. Their collaboration was released to country radio and once again, became a massive chart success.

Growing up in Oklahoma, Underwood was greatly influenced by the music of Randy Travis.

“Randy Travis is somebody that, I remember my sister had a cassette tape of his,” she once told People. “I would listen to it probably way more than she did, and I just loved not just his voice, because he has such a distinct voice, but his songs … it was such an amazing thing getting to meet him through that, and getting to be able to talk to him through that.”
