Two days after the death of her mother, Jacqueline McEntire, Reba McEntire is remembering the band she lost 29 years ago on March 16 in a tragic plane crash.
Those band members lost included Jim Hammon, Reba’s tour manager; Kirk Cappello, Joey Cigainero, Paula Kaye Evans, Michael Thomas, Terry Jackson, Tony Saputo and Chris Austin. Each year Reba makes a point to remember those she loved so dearly, taking to social media with her tribute.
“29 years ago today, I lost my friends in a plane crash,” Reba wrote. “The timing of Mama’s passing with that anniversary seems appropriate. I know they’re all in Heaven together and taking care of each other. Let’s keep finding ways to take care of each other down here on earth and never take one moment with our loved ones for granted.”
Reba had just performed with her band at a show in San Diego on a Friday night. While she stayed back to take a flight the next day, her band members got on the fateful flight. Reba was set to meet the band at the next stop. Shortly after takeoff, the plane, flying too low, hit a mountain and went down. Everyone on board lost their lives, including the pilots.
Reba’s fellow country stars took to the comment section to send their love and condolences.
“Love you!,” Little Big Town wrote.
