President Donald Trump And First Lady Share Dance At Inaugural Ball

A longstanding tradition continued when Donald and Melania Trump shared their first dance as the first couple.

Since Dolly Madison began the tradition in 1809 by hosting a party for her husband, James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, the inaugural ball has become a valued American tradition.

Even though the Constitution does not require it, all new Presidents can’t miss this event.

Donald Trump continued this tradition during his inauguration by hosting three balls: The Commander-in-Chief Inaugural Ball, featuring performances by Rascal Flatts and Parker McCollum, The Liberty Inaugural Ball, featuring performances by rapper Nelly, country singer Jason Aldean, and the disco band the Village People, and The Starlight Ball, featuring a performance by singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw.

During the 2017 Liberty Ball, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump took part in the over 200-year tradition of the first dance between the president and the first lady.

Melania attended the event in a stunning white strapless gown by Hervé Pierre, and the couple danced to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” The President and the First Lady swayed and sang along to the classic hit with large smiles on their faces.

This Year’s Dance

This year, President Donald and First Lady Melania Trump shared their first dance at the Commander-in-Chief Ball. Trump donned a traditional tux while Melania looked stunning in a custom made black and white gown by Herve Pierre, her longtime designer.

The couple made their way to center stage, where they danced their first dance to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, joined the first couple on stage before four servicemembers also took the stage to dance with them.
