Miranda Lambert’s Kind Words Bring Carrie Underwood to Tears

Carrie Underwood

Miranda Lambert fans might remember when the country star took to social media in early October to share her thoughts on who should take home the coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy at the upcoming CMA Awards (Nov. 13). While she had high praise for all of the nominees, she ultimately picked Carrie and supported her choice with solid facts.

Since then, Miranda has been asked in many interviews, including a chat with Kix Brooks, about choosing Carrie, but Carrie, who went right from wrapping her Cry Pretty Tour 360 to prepping for the CMA Awards hadn’t heard them. So, in an appearance on the nationally syndicated radio show The Ty Bentli Show, Ty and his co-hosts, TJ Jenkins and Chuck Wicks, played a clip for her.

Carrie’s voice shakes a bit as she responds, “She’s always been super supportive and super sweet,” but as Ty asks her about the importance of her possibly winning Entertainer of the Year, the singer-songwriter admits, “I’m kind of emotional.” Carrie grows even more emotional as she continues, “It’s a nomination for all of us. It would definitely be, not just a win for all the things that we’ve been doing, all that stuff that she mentioned that I’m so lucky and blessed enough to do.” She then chokes back tears as she says, “You watch other women in this industry do the same thing and it’s just…I don’t know what I’m trying to say.”

The conversation then turned to the shortage of women in country music and Carrie spoke about her tour partners Runaway June and Maddie and Tae. “We have so much talent, we just need some more open doors,” she said. “I don’t ever want any woman to feel like they can’t do everything. They can’t have this life and have a family and have all the things going on together.”

“Were all in it together and if there’s one incredible thing that’s happened from all of this talk about women in country music, it’s the fact that I feel like we’ve all banded together,” she added.

Find out if Carrie takes home the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award on Wednesday night (Nov. 13) when the 53rd Annual CMA Awards air live on ABC.
