James Taylor Sings “Carolina In My Mind” With Son Henry At Concert For Carolina

On Saturday, October 26th, nearly a dozen artists donated their time and talents to Concert for Carolina

Spearheaded by country stars Luke Combs and Eric Church, the special benefit show sold out almost immediately after tickets went on sale. In total, more than 80,000 fans attended the concert at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Those who were unable to attend in person could tune in via livestream to support the cause and witness all the special moments that the night had in store.

In addition to Combs and Church, the star-studded lineup of Concert for Carolina included Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Scotty McCreery, and more.

Ultimately, Concert for Carolina raised an astounding $24 million to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts. The funds will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse, Manna Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, and Eblen Charities.

Luke Combs called it “the night I am most proud of in my career” as he reflected on the event’s impact.

James Taylor and Henry Taylor perform “Carolina In My Mind”

One of the night’s special guests was Grammy Award winner and Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame member James Taylor. During the show, James welcomed his 23-year-old son Henry to the stage to join him for a special song, perfectly fit for the occasion. Like his father, Henry is a singer and musician, and the pair occasionally perform together.

The father-son duo delivered a beautiful performance of “Carolina In My Mind.” The track was originally released on James Taylor’s self-titled debut album in 1968. While the song never topped the charts, the sentimental nature resonated with listeners, and it has become one of the most-covered contemporary folk songs of all time.

The song reflects the homesickness that the North Carolina native was feeling at the time it was written. It croons:

In my mind, I’m gone to Carolina.
Can’t you see the sunshine?
Now can’t you just feel the moonshine?
And ain’t it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind?
Yes, I’m gone to Carolina in my mind.
