George Strait Passes Milestone Attendance Mark With Recent Las Vegas Shows

George Strait

George Strait continued his Strait to Vegas residency at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with two chart-topping shows on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The double-header grossed $4.2 million and sold 31,556 tickets according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, bringing Strait to the pole position on both the latest Current Boxscore chart and the Feb. 15-dated Hot Tours recap (see below).

It’s Strait’s 21st time atop the Current Boxscore chart, dating back to a July 7, 1990 concert at The Summit in Houston, Texas. There, the country legend earned $287,000 on a quaint $21 ticket. (His recent Vegas shows’ cheapest seat was $50.)

The Strait to Vegas residency is ongoing since launching on April 22, 2016. Over the course of nearly four years, Strait has grossed $67.8 million and sold 469,741 tickets at the T-Mobile Arena. He has played a total of 28 shows throughout the residency, two at a time and usually separated by a three-to-four month break in between.

The success of his most recent two-show stint lifts Strait’s career total past 10 million tickets sold, to 10,031,222 – as reported to Billboard Boxscore. He becomes the 16th artist in Boxscore history to pass the diamond threshold in total attendance, the eighth soloist, and only the second country artist to do so, joining Kenny Chesney (15,511,123 tickets) in the elite club. His total gross climbs to $539.2 million from 744 reported performances.

Strait also hits No. 5 on the Boxscore chart with a show outside of his Vegas residency, earning $2.7 million on Jan. 24 at Kansas City’s INTRUST Bank Arena.
