We all love George Strait for his music, but we love him even more for his philanthropy. His generous spirit has surfaced yet again, and his home state of Texas couldn’t be more proud.
The Navarro Country Go Texan event is one of the biggest social events in their community. The main objective, aside from selling some of the finest boots and jeans, is to award deserving students with scholarship funds.
Committee chairman, Vicki Arnett told Corsicana Daily Sun about last year’s success.
“In 2015 the Navarro County Area Go Texan Foundation gave 40 students $72,000 in scholarship money, and one student, Cody Carroll, received $18,000 from Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.”

This year Strait did his part to support the community by providing some items of his own. Arnett reported, “This year we got eight tickets to the George Strait Team Roping Classic held in March in San Antonio,” she said. “Those are big ticket items in addition to the autographed smaller items that we are able to auction off. George Strait has been awesome and generous to us, and for that we are very grateful.”
The area Go Texan Committee is a sub-committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. All the funds raised locally are maintained locally. Keeping the funds local further creates a stronger community in Navarro County, and that is something to be proud of.
The Go Texan Committee does everything they can to send bright, and well-deserving kids to college. With higher education coming at such a high cost these days, it is nice to see such a forward-thinking community!
We’re happy to see Strait giving back in the new year. Maybe we will see more influential artist follow in his footsteps! Listen to Strait’s famous “I Cross My Heart” below for your daily dose of The King of Country!
