It’s National Law Enforcement Day and George Strait is tipping his hat to policemen and women with a classic of his.
Strait wrote the song, “The Weight of the Badge,” dedicating it to law enforcement officers. This track is fitting for the day.

George Strait Writes Moving Song with Son
The King of country music felt inspired to write this song after an encounter with an officer during the ceremony honoring him with the Texan of the Year Award.
He explains that during the ceremony one of the security officers was talking to his grandson Harvey. This officer let the little boy play with his badge and pin it on his shirt.
“And I just got to thinking about that because it really wasn’t that heavy until you put it on it and then it means, it really gets heavy,” George Strait says. “So, that was one of those things I thought was a real important message especially these days and times.”
He enlisted the help of his son, Bubba, and frequent collaborator Dean Dillon to write the song. The tune paints a picture of a police officer that leaves his family each day as he goes into the line of duty. The officer ultimately ends up getting hurt but makes a full recovery.
“Not that long ago he woke up in the hospital / With his wife and kids praying by his bed / He said: I’m gonna be alright / There’s just some times you gotta fight,” the song lyrics read.
The video below shows Strait singing the song at one of his shows in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena. In between the footage of the singer is a slideshow of photos of men and women in blue.
