George Strait has played plenty of stadiums in his lifetime, but he’s about to add another one to his list. The hitmaker has booked a gig at Indiana’s Notre Dame Stadium on August 15, where he’ll be joined by special guests Chris Stapleton and Brothers Osborne.
When the King of Country invades South Bend, he will become just the third musical artist in history to headline a concert at Notre Dame Stadium. Fellow country titan Garth Brooks first achieved the feat in October 2018 as the kick-off to his latest stadium tour. Billy Joel will headline the 77,000-seat stadium in June for a change of scenery from his best-selling residency at Madison Square Garden.
Strait recently broke a barrier by becoming the eighth solo artist to sell more than 10 million career concert tickets. He achieved the impressive feat during the latest dates of his Las Vegas residency at T-Mobile Arena on January 31 and February 1. He now joins Kenny Chesney as the lone country performers to reach the 10 million ticket mark, which is largely a testament to their lengthy careers and impressive stadium ventures.
The singer famously retired from touring in 2014 but has remained an active performer nonetheless. He is approaching four years of his Las Vegas residency, in which he performs two back-to-back shows every few months. In addition, he makes sporadic stops in cities around the country to perform in both stadium and arena settings.
His upcoming Notre Dame Stadium gig marks the beginning of a busy stretch for the legendary singer. One week after headlining in Indiana, he’ll perform another Midwest show at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium with Stapleton and Little Big Town. Days after that stadium bout, Strait returns to Las Vegas for the latest pair of shows in his Strait To Vegas residency.
