Few People Know That Toby Keith Sang On His Daughter’s Debut Album
Toby Keith Sang Backing Vocals On His Daughter’s First Album & Few People Ever Realized It
Toby Keith’s daughter, Krystal Keith, released her debut album, Whiskey & Lace, in 2013. However, she was first introduced to the country music community years prior.
During the 2004 CMA Awards, a young Krystal joined her dad onstage to sing a cover of “Mockingbird.” They also released their duet, and it reached the 27th spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.
That duet further ignited Krystal’s desire to pursue her own country music career. But before that happened, Toby had one request.
“He was like ‘I don’t care what your plan is, this is the plan. You’re going to college and when you finish we’ll go full force into music,” she recalled in a 2013 interview with Taste of Country.
While she didn’t believe it then, looking back, Krystal said, “He really did know best.”
Krystal ended up attending her father’s favorite college, the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, she dove into her music career and released her first album, Whiskey & Lace, in 2013.
Toby produced the record and also contributed backing vocals…something few fans ever realized.
