American Idol Star Emmy Russell Announces She’s Pregnant

Emmy Russell, the talented singer millions fell in love with on the 2024 season of American Idol, just announced she’s pregnant with her first child.

Emmy was born with a love for music in her blood. Her grandmother was the late country singer Loretta Lynn. 

When Emmy was young, she’d sing onstage at some of Loretta’s shows. While Emmy has always admired her “memaw” and her legacy, she wanted to pave her own path in the music world.

She showcased her talent when performing her emotional original song, “Skinny,” when she auditioned for Season 22 of American Idol. 

Emmy quickly became a fan-favorite on Idol. Fans were moved by her performances, especially when she put her own spin on Loretta’s signature song, “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

Emmy placed within the Top 5 before being eliminated. Since then, she’s performed at the Opry multiple times and participated in other shows across the country.

Also, since finishing Idol, Emmy has learned that she is expecting her first child!

Emmy Russell Shares Pregnancy News On Got It From My Momma Podcast

Emmy and her mother, Patsy Lynn Russell, were recent guests on Jennifer Vickery Smith’s Got It From My Momma podcast. The podcast was recorded in front of a live audience.

Jennifer started the episode by saying that Emmy had some exciting news to share. That’s when Emmy said, “Y’all, me and Tyler are expecting a baby girl.”

Emmy’s boyfriend, Tyler Ward, rushed onstage to give her a hug and lovingly placed his hand on her baby bump. The crowd clapped as Emmy said, “So yeah, so I’m so excited…right out of ‘American Idol,’ I didn’t know. So that’s kind of been the journey.”

Tyler is also a singer and songwriter. He founded the company Song House, which hosts camps for aspiring musical artists.

Emmy has appeared in many of Song House’s videos. A Song House video of her singing “Skinny” first went viral in 2023, one year before her Idol audition aired.

Based on social media postings, Emmy and Tyler have been together for some time but have mostly kept their relationship out of the spotlight. They also kept their pregnancy news secret for a while, with Emmy telling Got It From My Momma:

“This is the first time I’m actually, like, fully announcing that...”
