Carrie Underwood’s hockey star husband, Mike Fisher, is trying his hand at the music industry now that he has retired from the NHL. He recently recorded a cover of his wife’s hit song, “Before He Cheats,” but it’s not about a relationship gone sour at all—it’s about hunting.

Fisher released a song called “Before She Bleats” for his hunting-themed clothing line, Catchin’ Deers. The title comes from a baby deer’s bleat during mating season. The lyrics include, “Right now he’s probably out grazing with a corn-fed doe and it’s probably getting frisky.” He also created a music video, which is just as silly as the song.

Fisher recorded the parody without his wife’s involvement, and that’s exactly what she wanted. Underwood has stuck with a meat-free diet since she was a child, after learning what happened to the cows on her family farm.

“Carrie didn’t write the song—we didn’t have to go through her, thank goodness,” Fisher told Entertainment Tonight. “She might not have approved it. I think most people know she’s not a hunting fan, so I think she wanted to be able to plead the fifth and then be surprised.”

So far, Underwood hasn’t commented on Fisher’s take on her classic hit. But given Fisher’s vocal stylings, here’s betting she doesn’t view him as competition.
